Media Studies at King Edward VI Lordswood School for Girls is designed to widen the intellectual horizons of students through the analysis of both global and historical media. The media studies curriculum is designed to foster the development of critical and reflective thinking in order to encourage engagement in the critical debates surrounding contemporary media. Students will be enabled to engage confidently with critical and theoretical approaches from the perspectives of both analytical consumers and producers of media products. The curriculum is formulated around the four key theoretical areas of media language, media representation, media industries and media audiences.  These key concepts underpin the analysis of a range of media products taken from the key media sectors: advertising and marketing, newspapers, television, film, magazines, videogames and music video.
