Introductory Diploma/Diploma

This vocational qualification is designed with the workplace in mind and will provide you with the knowledge and skills required for entry into employment and the community as a whole.  The course has been designed to be up to date, engaging, fit for purpose and suitable for the needs of students in 2021.

You will apply your skills and knowledge practically in preparation for further study, apprenticeship or employment.  You will be able to apply for pathways that require communication, problem solving, time management, research and analytical skills.

This course, is very hands on as we have both practical and technical work. The teachers are very supportive and promote learning in a fun way. As students, have developed our technical understanding in IT. During the two years we have learnt the different aspects of IT and the effects it has on modern day life. Overall, we enjoy the lessons as they are fun, productive and full of energy.

I love my IT lessons, they are a a fun and interactive way for me to learn about the way the world is developing with technology and all of its implications, by doing IT I feel more aware of these developments.

Year 12 Level 3 Intro Diploma [1 A Level equivalent]:
Unit 1: Fundamentals of IT – examination May 2022
Covers computer hardware, computer software, IT employability skills, threats to IT systems. 
Unit 2:  Global Information – examination May 2022
Covers how information is held globally, information styles, legal framework of storing information globally and the principles of information security.

Year 12 Level 3 Diploma [2 A Level equivalent]:

Unit 1 : Fundamentals of IT – examination May 2022
Covers computer hardware, computer software, IT employability skills, threats to IT systems. 
Unit 2 :  Global Information – examination May 2022
Covers how information is held globally, information styles, legal framework of storing information globally and the principles of information security.
Unit 12 : The Internet of Everything – internal coursework
This unit is about the use of the internet and how it is impacting people and society. You will learn about the Internet of Everything (IoE) and how it is used.
Unit 19 : Computer Systems – Software – internal coursework
You will have access to a range of operating systems, application software and utility software. You will install and upgrade a wide range of software to include operating systems, application software and utility software.  Carry out maintenance activities such as anti-virus, registry cleaners, defragmentation tools etc.
Unit 12 : Mobile Technologies – internal coursework
You will broaden your knowledge and understanding of the wider potential of mobile technologies and its consequences to people and businesses.

Covers the knowledge and understanding of the range of threats, vulnerabilities and risks that impact on both individuals and organisations.

You will gain the ability to plan, implement and maintain computer networks.
Unit 9 : – Product Development – internal coursework
You will undertake product development activities.
Unit 8 : – Project Management – internal coursework
You will have the opportunity to understand and use various project planning skills and techniques, thereby enabling you to become more effective in the workplace.

To consider how the evolution of technology has impacted on everyday life, and why the Smarter Planet is important for a global society.
