Students will be given the experience of numerous sports throughout KS3. They will have the opportunity to gain knowledge of sports in depth and learn skills that can transfer between sports.
Year 7
Autumn Term
Dance, Gymnastics, Fitness, Netball
Students develop fundamental movement skills, coordination, and body control through a range of activities. Dance and Gymnastics focus on rhythm, expression, balance, flexibility, and linking movements into sequences, while Fitness teaches strength, endurance, agility, and healthy lifestyle habits. Netball develops game skills, teamwork, tactics, and applying fitness in a game context, with all activities promoting confidence, sportsmanship, and the ability to evaluate performance.
Spring Term
Badminton, Football, OAA, Rowing
Students develop fundamental skills, coordination, and teamwork through a variety of sports and activities. Badminton and Football focus on technique, tactics, passing, striking, and applying skills in game situations, while OAA develops problem-solving, navigation, teamwork, and resilience through challenges and outdoor tasks. Rowing teaches posture, technique, strength, endurance, and synchronisation, with all activities promoting confidence, communication, and the ability to evaluate and improve personal and team performance.
Summer Term
Rounders, Athletics
Students develop fundamental skills, coordination, and teamwork through a variety of sports and activities. Rounders focuses on batting, bowling, fielding, and game tactics, while Athletics develops running, jumping, throwing techniques, speed, stamina, and personal performance. Both activities promote confidence, fair play, communication, and the ability to evaluate and improve individual and team performance.
Year 8
Autumn Term
Netball, Gymnastics, Dance
Students further develop their skills, coordination, and tactical understanding across a range of activities. Netball focuses on advanced passing, defending, attacking strategies, and decision-making, while Gymnastics builds on technique through floor work, balances, vaults, and trampette, and Dance develops sequences, creativity, and expressive performance. All activities continue to promote teamwork, confidence, sportsmanship, and the ability to evaluate and improve both individual and group performance.
Spring Term
Cricket, Badminton, Football, OAA, Rowing
Students continue to refine their skills, coordination, and tactical awareness across a variety of sports and activities. Cricket, Badminton, and Football focus on advanced techniques, game strategies, and decision-making, while OAA develops problem-solving, navigation, teamwork, and resilience through outdoor challenges, and Rowing builds strength, endurance, technique, and synchronisation. All activities promote confidence, communication, sportsmanship, and the ability to evaluate and improve both individual and team performance.
Summer Term

Year 9
Autumn Term
Gymnastics, Dance, Football
Students refine skills, coordination, and tactical understanding in a range of physical activities. Football focuses on advanced techniques, tactics, and decision-making, while Rhythmic Gymnastics develops flexibility, coordination, apparatus handling, and expressive floor sequences, and Dance enhances creativity, choreography, and performance skills.
Spring Term
Fitness, OAA, Rowing, Cricket, Netball
Students continue to develop fitness, coordination, and tactical awareness across a variety of sports and activities. Cricket and Netball focus on advanced techniques, strategies, and decision-making, while Fitness, Rowing, and OAA develop strength, endurance, teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience.
Summer Term
Athletics, Pickleball
Students continue to refine skills, fitness, and tactical awareness across a range of activities. Athletics focuses on advanced running, jumping, and throwing techniques, while Pickleball develops hand-eye coordination, striking, positioning, and tactical decision-making.
Assessment at Key stage 3
Students will be assessed at the end of every sport, using KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). There are 4 KPIs that we focus on for each sport and these develop as they progress through the school years. Students also fill out a student reflection form which they will keep in their planners alongside their WCF forms from each sport.
