-Component 1: Fitness and Body Systems

-Component 2: Health and Performance

-Students have to perform in 3 sports. Students will have 1 lesson every 2 weeks to practise their skills but we strongly recommend that students are participating in outside clubs as there is not enough time in the curriculum to be rehearsing for 3 sports. 

– Coursework. Students have to create a 6 week improvement plan of a component of fitness. They then carry out the fitness plan in the 6 weeks holiday and then write a 1500 word evaluation.

Year 10

Autumn Term

Topic 1: Health, fitness and wellbeing

Health, fitness and wellbeing- In this topic students will develop knowledge and understanding of the benefits of participating in physical activity and sport to health, fitness and wellbeing through the following content.

Topic 2: Applied anatomy and physiology

Applied anatomy and physiology- In this topic students will develop knowledge and understanding of the key body systems and how they impact on health, fitness and performance in physical activity and sport through the following content.

Spring Term

Topic 3: Movement analysis

Movement analysis- In this topic students will develop knowledge and understanding of the basic principles of movement and their effect on performance in physical activity and sport through the following content.

Summer Term

Topic 4: Sport psychology

Sport psychology- In this topic students will develop knowledge and understanding of the psychological factors that can affect performers and their performance in physical activity and sport through the following content.

Coursework preparation

PEP- Coursework preparation. The purpose of this component is to assess students’ skills in analysing and evaluating performance through a personal exercise programme (PEP) in order to improve/optimise performance in a chosen physical activity.

Year 11

Autumn Term

Topic 5: Socio-cultural influences

Socio-cultural influences- In this topic students will develop knowledge and understanding of the socio-cultural factors that impact on physical activity and sport, and the impact of sport on society, through the following content.

Topic 6: Physical training

Physical training- In this topic students will develop knowledge and understanding of the principles of training and different training methods in order to plan, carry out, monitor and evaluate personal exercise and training programmes, through the following content.

Spring Term

Topic 7: Use of data

Use of data- In this topic students will develop knowledge and understanding of data analysis in relation to key areas of physical activity and sport, through this content and linking it to other topics.

Assessment at Key stage 4

At the end of each topic, students will have a test. There is 1 year 10 mock exam and 2 year 11 mock exams and 1 practical mock exam. Students’ coursework will need to be handed in as homework throughout year 11.
